Dutch Sailmaker Upgrades with New High Speed Automated CNC Cutting Machine

De Vries Maritiem is one of the oldest but also one of the most modern sail makers in Europe. Employing 16 skilled staff, the company makes a range of sailing products including sails for boats ranging from small dingies to large yachts, spray hoods, Biminis and cushions.

Managing director Ruben Hoekstra said, “We manufacture products using a wide range of materials from canvas and woven polymers to modern composite materials like Dyneema. We purchased a Blackman and White cutter about 16 years ago, which has been in operation for up to 8 hours every day. While it did an excellent job, the cutting bed was only 5 metres long. As modern sails can be much larger, we needed to update to a more modern machine with a much larger cutting bed and it allowed us to update the pattern cutting software to improve our efficiency.”

De Vries Maritiem upgraded to the latest Orion high speed automated CNC cutting machine with a 1.6 metre by 10.0 metre cut area. The new machine in comparison to their previous system is more accurate, faster and was designed for ease of use. The machine was supplied with a complete vacuum system for holding the sail cloth and materials in place during the cutting process. The vacuum system consists of premium grade tables with internal aluminium honeycomb support, vacuum pipework and a powerful vacuum pump.

Hoekstra added, “The old machine had 2 separate control boxes with many cables which were prone to damage and it also required a separate computer to calculate nesting patterns. The new machine is more robust, totally self-contained with just a single Internet cable and mains supply, so is a more compact and solid machine. The new software has additional functionalities. For example, when the cutter is running, we can then use the nesting software to calculate the best layout for other products and save the files for future use which saves a lot of production time. As the software is automatic, it’s very easy to use, which means other staff can use it so we can do more jobs, increase productivity with the same number of staff.”

Femina Physical Therapy Reinvents Girls Night Out

Women’s health physical therapist Heather Jeffcoat wants to talk to women about sex and pelvic health. But instead of discussing their concerns in a medical office with a paper gown, she is inviting them to an LA nightclub and pouring drinks.

Girls Night Out: Better Sexual And Pelvic Health is scheduled for Sunday, November 4, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at the Crocker Club in Downtown Los Angeles. The educational and social event will feature Jeffcoat, the founder of Femina Physical Therapy, and other Los Angeles-based experts including human sexuality expert, Dr. Emily Morse (Sex With Emily podcast) and female sexual medicine expert Dr. Lisa Valle, D.O. (Oasis Women’s Sexual Function Center).

Following their seminar covering a range of female sexuality and pelvic health considerations, speakers will answer attendee questions over drinks and appetizers. Jeffcoat hopes the historic venue, food and drinks, gift bags, and raffle prizes will set the backdrop for the discussions she hopes to facilitate.

“It’s becoming increasingly important to facilitate these important discussions on women’s pelvic and sexual health in a safe, nonjudgmental atmosphere,” she says. “This event encourages women to bring up the questions they were always too afraid to ask, to the experts that can address them.”

Tickets for the event, sponsored by Viveve and others, are available at https//:feminapt.com/media-content/events/girls-night-out-2018. Reserved booth seating is available for groups of up to 12 women. Unreserved seating options are also available. AIG Malaysia Shares The Blessings With Online Campaign On Lazada

AIG Malaysia launched its Share the Blessings campaign, a donation drive where all sales proceeds from the purchase of any of its products on Lazada in the month of July 2018 will be donated to Community Policing Malaysia.

Speaking at the Raya Open House with the residents of Kampung Seri Aman in Puchong, AIG Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Antony Lee shared that this is an extension of its #AIGJagaYou campaign, aimed at innovating the way AIG engages with all its stakeholders. The word “jaga” is derived from Bahasa Malaysia, which simply means to care for.

sharetheblessings
“We originally initiated the Share the Blessings donation drive to inculcate Jaga attitude amongst our staff and to encourage them to care for and give back to the community. It triggered such an emotional response that our staff suggested we extend the drive to include our customers and members of the public through a campaign on Lazada,” explained Lee.

“The act of providing insurance services to help our customers prepare for the unexpected and give them protection from financial catastrophe is, in essence, how AIG Jaga its customers. We are honored to be able to extend this Jaga concept and enable our customers to donate to a worthy cause while AIG continues to care for their insurance needs. Having our store on Lazada makes this process easy, convenient and accessible as you can purchase the products anywhere, any time with any of your internet-ready devices,” he added.

Throughout the Share the Blessings campaign period i.e. 2-31 July, 100% of the proceeds from all AIG insurance products purchased on Lazada will go to Community Policing Malaysia (CPM), a non-profit organization known for its work with the less fortunate and hardcore poor. Customers may choose any of these products, depending on their needs: Travel Insurance, Snatch Theft Insurance or Active Lifestyle Care.

This marks the second collaboration between AIG Malaysia and CPM, the first one being the provision of motor insurance by AIG Malaysia to CPM’s Ambulans 10sen fleet last December. It is a first responder unit comprising three (3) ambulances manned by 6 full time employees and two volunteers. Embodying the same Jaga spirit, Ambulans 10sen is used to aid accident victims, transport the poor and the ill to the hospital and to render first aid and basic medical services to in-home patients such as wound cleaning and dressing. The charge? That’s right, it’s 10sen.

CPM is founded in 2007 by Mr. Kuan Chee Heng, or fondly known as Uncle Kentang. What started out as a provider of free educational and training materials to assist community volunteers to set up patrol groups in their neighborhood, CPM has expanded its activities to provide humanitarian services to the community such as Ambulans 10sen, Library 10sen, Rumah 1 Ringgit, emergency food and medical assistance, neighborhood patrol and search and rescue mission for missing persons. The association now has 130,000 members nationwide.

“CPM consists of ordinary citizens, retired police officers and everyone who cares for the safety and well-being of the community. In today’s fast-moving world, sometimes we forget to look to our left and right to see if our neighbors have food on the table for their families tonight, or if someone is sick but is unable to go to the hospital because he doesn’t have any money. We need to Jaga each other and I thank AIG for coming forward with its Share the Blessings campaign so that members of the public can participate. I believe together we can care for the society that we live in,” remarked Uncle Kentang.

When asked about the significance of charging 10sen or RM1 for the services that CPM provides, Uncle Kentang explained that it is to allow the poor to maintain their dignity as they are paying for the services rather than getting a handout.

Also present at the Hari Raya Open house was Lazada Malaysia’s Chief Executive Officer Christophe Lejeune.

“In the last 6 years, Lazada has become the number one e-commerce player in Malaysia. A big part of this is due to brands such as AIG, who uses the platform in innovative and inclusive ways to provide customers with not just a great shopping experience, but also the opportunity to connect with and give back to the society. We applaud AIG Malaysia and CPM on this Share the Blessings campaign, and we hope this will serve as a catalyst for more Jaga initiatives on Lazada in the future."

AIG Malaysia also accepts donation in term of goods such as articles of clothing, hygiene and personal care items, books and canned foods (non-perishables). The public is advised to pack, seal and label the items in boxes and to hand them over to AIG representatives at its headquarters in Menara Worldwide, Bukit Bintang.
